MICHAEL ROBERSON
Michael Roberson is a Senior Associate at Blau | Hynson whose practice focuses on criminal appeals, post-conviction litigation, and claims involving wrongful conviction and actual innocence.
Before joining the firm, Mike served for seven years as a staff attorney with the North Carolina Center on Actual Innocence, where he provided pro bono representation to wrongfully convicted individuals across North Carolina. That work gave him direct experience investigating old convictions, reviewing trial records, developing new evidence, and advocating for clients seeking relief after the criminal legal system failed them.
Mike brings a thoughtful, record-driven approach to appellate and post-conviction work. His background in actual innocence litigation aligns closely with Blau | Hynson’s focus on high-stakes criminal appeals, motions for appropriate relief, and post-conviction matters involving serious constitutional and factual concerns.
A Durham native and proud double Tarheel, Mike earned his law degree from the University of North Carolina School of Law, where he served as the Executive Member of the Julius L. Chambers Civil Rights Moot Court Team. He also earned his Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy with distinction from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with minors in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics, and Slavic and Eastern European Cultures.
Mike is admitted to practice in North Carolina state courts and is a member of the North Carolina Advocates for Justice and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
